August 16th to 18th - Defending champions Man City, and their 115 charges, started off the new season with a two-nil victory at Chelsea and their 115 man squad. Erling Haaland opened his account for the season in the first half with Mateo Kovacic sealing the win against his former side.

There were two-nil victories for the two sides that challenged Man City last season. Second half goals from Diogo Jota and Mo Salah gave Liverpool victory at newly promoted Ipswich Town. Salah has now scored nine goals on the opening day since signing in 2017. Arsenal won by the same scoreline at home to Wolves - Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka on the scoresheet, earning bonus points for some of you along the way.

Man United kicked off the season on Friday night at home to Fulham. They stumbled to victory with a goal three minutes from time from new signing Joshua Zirkzee on his debut. Everton's final season at Goodison Park started in disastrous fashion as they crashed to a three-nil defeat at home to Brighton. Goals from Mitoma, Welbeck and Adingra gave Fabian Hurzeler victory in his first game in charge. The Toffees also lost Ashley Young to a red card to compound the fume around L4.

Newcastle United were reduced to ten men after Fabian Schar's early red card but Joelinton's goal on half time was enough to give them victory over Southampton on Saturday. Aston Villa started off their season with an excellent win on the road - they were ahead inside five minutes through Onana's opening goal before Paqueta equalised from the spot. Unai Emery's side took all three points though when Jhon Duran scored with eleven minutes to go.

Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth shared the points following a one-all draw. That game was marred by a very bad injury to Danilo. Chris Wood's opener for the home side was cancelled out late on by Antoine Semenyo's strike. Brentford started with a win too - goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa saw them beat Crystal Palace three-two on Sunday afternoon.

In an ominous start to the season, Jonathan Fox leads our competition after the first weekend with 64 points. He has a two point lead over Graham Pierpoint in second place. Niall Carroll and Thomas Nolan share third spot, they're both five points off the lead. Fifth place is shared by Con McSweeney and Craig Whelan. Full details below:

August 24th & 25th - Man City went top of the table on Saturday night after a 4-1 win at home to Ipswich Town. The Tractor Boys really poked the hornet's nest when they took an early lead through Sammie Szmodics. Nine minutes after scoring they were three-one down. Erling Haaland went on to complete a hat-trick, being joined on the scoresheet by Kevin de Bruyne. Brighton joined Man City on six points after a two-one win at home to Man United. Danny Welbeck opened the scoring for the fifth time against his former side. Amad Diallo looked to have earned his side a point until Joao Pedro struck in the fifth minute of injury time to give Brighton their fifth win from their last six games against Erik Ten Hag's side...

Arsenal exorcised the ghosts of one of last season's defeats when they won two-nil at Aston Villa. An Ollie Watkins sitter proved vital when Leandro Trossard and Tomas Partey scored second half goals for Mikel Arteta's side who became the third team to make it two wins from two. Everton's disastrous start to the season continued when they shipped four at Tottenham. Among the scorers was Son Heung-Min whose double strike saw him score for the tenth consecutive season.

Nottingham Forest recorded their first win of the season when Morgan Gibbs-White scored the only goal in a one-nil win at Southampton. West Ham also got off the mark - they won two-nil across London at Crystal Palace - the goals cam in the final quarter from Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen. Fulham beat Leicester two-one in Saturday's final game - Alex Iwobi scored the winner in that game after Wout Faes had cancelled out Emile Smith-Rowe's opener.

Sunday's games saw Liverpool join the other teams on two wins from two - Luis Diaz and Mo Salah scored in each half in a two-nil win at home to Brentford. Chelsea's enlarged squad won a remarkable six-two victory at Wolves - Noni Madueke scored a hat-trick in that one and was immediately awarded with a 22 year contract to cover his entire career and first few years of retirement (probably!). The game between Bournemouth and Newcastle finished one-all - Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring for the Cherries but Anthony Gordon earned a point for Eddie Howe's side.

Joe Behan is our new leader after a score of 67 points this week took him top of the leaderboard. Jonathan Fox is just two points behind in second place. Dylan O'Riordan has climbed to third with Bobby Hynes up three places to fourth. Fifth place is shared by Jason Maloney and Phil Doyle - all to play for with next weekend's games deciding our first monthly winner of the season:

August 31st - August ended with a familiar look to the table with Man City the only team to make it three wins from three. Erling Haaland scored his second hat trick in a week as the reigning champions won three-one at West Ham. The Hammers had briefly threatened a comeback when Ruben Dias scored an own goal to equalise but the Norwegian robot soon put paid to those thoughts. Arsenal and Brighton lost their 100% percent records but remain unbeaten after a one-all draw at the Emirates. The Gunners looked set to make it three wins from three after Kai Havertz opened the scoring. However a red card for Declan Rice (see you in the Aviva next Saturday...) and a Joao Pedro equaliser saw the points shared.

Everton plumbed new depths in their final season at Goodison. Despite leading Bournemouth two-nil with three minutes to go they managed to conjure up their third defeat in three. Goals from Semenyo, Cook and Sinisterra saw the Cherries steal an unlikely three points and leave the Toffees bottom of the table without a point so far. Southampton also retained their 100% defeat record with a three-one defeat at Brentford. Two goals from Bryan Mbeumo did the damage there...

Aston Villa won for the second time away from home this season, winning two-one at Leicester. Onana and Duran scored the goals for Unai Emery's side. The points were shared at the City Ground where Nottingham Forest and Wolves drew one-all. Both goals came in the first twelve minutes with Chris Wood scoring for the home side but Jean-Ricner Bellegarde equalising for the visitors. It also finished one-all at Portman Road where Ipswich Town picked up their first points of the season after a draw with Fulham.

Assuming no manager gets their P45 in the next three hours (I'm looking at you Sean Dyche!!) it looks like Joe Behan is our first monthly winner for 2024-2025. He held off a late challenge from David King to win the August prize by just two points. Jason Maloney finished in third place with Gavin Morgan and Craig Whelan completing the top five - full details below:
