August 5th to 7th - Arsenal kicked off the new season with a trip to Crystal Palace on Friday night. Their preseason optimism continued with a two-nil victory to kick start their campaign. Gabriel Martinelli scored the first goal of the new campaign and victory was sealed when Marc Guehi scored an own goal with five minutes to go.

Liverpool were twice behind at newly promoted Fulham but came away from Craven Cottage with a point. Aleksander Mitrovic took his goal scoring form from the Championship to the Premier League as he scored twice. Darwin Nunez came off the bench to equalise once and then set up a second equaliser for Mo Salah. The Egyptian has now scored on the opening day for six consecutive seasons.

The three o'clock games on Saturday saw Bournemouth pick up three points after a two-nil win at home to Aston Villa - Jefferson Lerma and Kiefer Moore scored the goals. Newcastle beat Nottingham Forest by the same scoreline - second half goals from Fabien Schar and Callum Wilson earned Eddie Howe's side the three points. Tottenham's season started with a four-one win at home to Southampton. The Saints were ahead with a James Ward-Prowse strike but Antonio Conte's side served notice of their intentions for the season with goals from Sessegnon, Dier, Kulusevski and an own goal. Chelsea opened with a one-nil win at Everton - Jorginho scored the only goal from the spot in first half injury time.

Sunday's games saw history made as Brighton won for the first time ever at Old Trafford. Two first half goals from Pascal Gross were enough to spoil Erik Ten Hag's managerial debut. Those pre-season victories already seem a distant memory. No such problems for the champions Man City - they started the defence of their title with a two-nil win at West Ham. Erling Haaland scored a goal in each half for Pep Guardiola's side. Sunday's other game saw the points shared at the Walker Stadium - Leicester were two goals ahead but two second half goals saw Brentford earn a point - Josh Da Silva scored the leveller with just five minutes left.

The first leaderboard of the season sees two people joint top on 51 points - Dylan Delaney and John Brophy. Anastas Popov is two points further back in third with five people sharing fourth place, including defending champions Jonathan Fox - full details below:

August 13th and 14th - Only two teams ended the weekend with a 100% record. Man City made it two wins from two with a straightforward four-nil win at home to Bournemouth. The goals came from Gundogan, De Bruyne, Foden and an own goal. That's six scored and none conceded as the champions made a very solid start to the defence of their title.

Arsenal also made it two wins from two. An entertaining game at home to Leicester finished four-two in favour of Mikel Arteta's side. Gabriel Jesus marked his home debut with two goals to kick start his Arsenal career. Chelsea and Tottenham played out a two-all draw on Sunday in a game which had everything. Chelsea lead twice through Koulibaly and James before equalisers from Hojbjerg and Kane (in the 96th minute). Both managers then ended up receiving red cards - an initial skirmish after the first equaliser was followed up by more handbags on the final whistle. Anthony Taylor, who loves a card, sent both managers off to round off the entertainment.

Man United finished Saturday evening bottom of the table. Just when you think things can't sink any lower, they go and lose four-nil at Brentford. All the goals came in the first thirty-five minutes - Jensen, Toney, Da Silva and Mee had the Bees in dreamland. Erik Ten Hag looked bemused in the dugout while Gary Neville had yet another hissy fit on the sidelines about the owners. All in all, a very enjoyable Saturday evening!

The Saturday morning clash between old rivals Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard ended in a two-one victory for Aston Villa. Villa were two up following goals from Ings and Buendia. Everton rallied late on but were unable to complete the comeback after Lucas Digne scored an own goal against his former side.

The game between Brighton and Newcastle finished scoreless as both teams moved onto four points and remain unbeaten. Further along the South Coast, the points were shared between Southampton and Leeds. Two Rodrigo goals sent the visitors two up but goals from Joe Aribo and Kyle Walker Peters ensured the Saints picked up their first point of the season. Wolves and Fulham shared the points after a nil-all draw at Molineaux. Aleksander Mitrovic could have made it two wins from two for Fulham but he missed a late penalty. Nottingham Forest's first home game back in the top division ended in a one-nil win. Taiwo Awoniyi scored the winner in first half injury time. Former Ireland international Declan Rice missed a second half penalty for the hammers.

Plenty of movement in the standings this weekend - Anastas Popov leads the way on 96 points and is 3 clear of Joe Behan in second place. Keith Ryan has climbed to third place with Lionel Knott and Gary McGurk completing the early top five. Finally, if anyone has any doubts about the integrity of the competition, scroll down to the bottom of the table. You can call me Erik from now on....

August 20th and 21st - Arsenal headed the table on Sunday night after a third consecutive win. They scored three without reply at Bournemouth to record maximum points from their first three games since the 2004-2005 season. Man City's 100% record came to an end with a three-all draw at Newcastle on Sunday afternoon. City went ahead early on through Ilkay Gundogan but were stunned when the hosts went three-one up with goals from Almiron, Wilson and Trippier. However, Pep Guardiola's side fought back to earn a point with goals from Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva.

Leeds recorded their second victory of the season with a comprehensive three-nil win at home to Chelsea. Eduardo Mendy's mistake allowed Brendon Aaronsen to open the scoring. A second followed through Rodrigo and third from Jack Harrison secured the points late on. That win sent Jesse Marsch's side third in the table. Tottenham continued their good start to the season with a one-nil win at home to Wolves. A hard fought game was settled by Harry Kane's second half strike. Fulham are still unbeaten too. Brentford looked to have earned a point after coming from two goals down at Craven Cottage but Aleksander Mitrovice scored a last minute winner for Marco Silva's side.

Everton needed a last minute equaliser from Demarai Gray to earn their first point of the season. Brennan Johnson had earlier given Nottingham Forest the lead at Goodison Park. Crystal Palace got their first win of the season when they came from behind to beat Aston Villa. Steven Gerrard's side were ahead early on but two goals from Wilfried Zaha and one from Matata saw Patrick Vieira come out on top of the former midfielder's managerial battle.

Leicester are in the bottom three after losing two-one at home to Southampton. All the goals at the King Power Stadium came in the second half - James Maddison opened the scoring but the Saints scored twice through Che Adams to earn the points. Ahead of the big game on Monday night, Man Unirah fans saw their team move off the bottom when West Ham lost two-nil at home to Brighton - the goals which saw David Moyes' side drop to last place on goals scored came from McAllister and Trossard.

A score of 25 points was enough to allow Joe Behan to swap places with last week's leader, Anastas Popov and move into first place. Keith Ryan remains in third place. David Cooney was one of the high climbers this week - his score of 39 points saw him move into joint fourth spot alongside Gerry Moore and James Keville. Full details below:

August 27th and 28th - The leaders Arsenal had to come from behind to maintain their 100% start to the season. Aleksander Mitrovic's fourth goal of the season had Fulham ahead at the Emirates but goals from Odegaard and Gabriel made it four wins from four for Mikel Arteta's revitalised side. Three teams are just two points behind. They include Man City who came from two down at home to Crystal Palace to win four-two. Palace were the victims of a very dubious disallowed goal to go three up before a goal from Bernardo Silva and a hat trick from Erling Haaland completed the comeback for the champions.

Harry Kane scored both goals and missed a penalty as Spurs won two-nil at Nottingham Forest on Sunday evening. They're joined on ten points by Brighton. Graham Potter's side recorded a one-nil win at home to Leeds - Pascal Gross scored the only goal in the second half.

Two wins in a week have the Man Unirah fans chirping again - a two-one win at home to Liverpool on Monday night was followed up with a one-nil win at Southampton. Bruno Fernandes scored his first goal of the season in the win at St Marys. Liverpool finally recorded their first win of the season at the fourth time of asking. Bournemouth were on the receiving end of a nine-nil backlash as Jurgen Klopp's side fiound their scoring boots. Among the goals were Luis Diaz and Roberto Firmino who both scored twice.

Chelsea ended the game with ten men but still had too much for Leicester. Brendan Rodgers is under pressure after Raheem Sterling's double, despite Conor Gallagher's red card in the first half. West Ham's first goal of the season through Pablo Fornals was enough to give them their first points of the season and beat Aston Villa. Steven Gerrard is also another manager feeling the early season pressure.

The weekend's other games saw two matches end in one-all draws. Everton were ahead at Brentford from Anthony Gordon's farewell goal before Vitaly Janelt equalised. Wolves and Newcastle also drew-one all. Allan Saint-Maximin's fine equaliser cancelled out Ruben Neves's opener.

Some excellent scores were posted over the weekend - none moreso than Philip Jordan who picked up 78 points, the highest this week. Heading into the midweek programme, which will decide the monthly winner, he leads by seven points from three people - James Keville, Keith Ryan and Sean Cleary. Sean was another excellent scorer this week - he picked up 72 points. Last week's leader, Joe Behan, is now in fifth place. Full details below:

August 30th and 31st - A full midweek programme rounded off the August competition. Arsenal made it five wins from five with a two-one win at home to Aston Villa. Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring before Douglas Luiz equalised. The leaders weren't to be denied though as Gabriel Martinelli scored the winner. Mikel Arteta's side have scored 13 goals in their five games so far with 7 of those coming from players called Gabriel! Man City are second after putting Nottingham Forest to the sword at the Etihad. Erling Haaland had scored his second hat-trick of the season by half-time. Their other new signing, Julian Alvarez, scored twice in an ominous sign for the rest of the league.

Spurs remain third but were pegged basck by West Ham who earned a point through Tomas Soucek's equaliser. Brighton's first defeat of the season came in a two-one loss at Fulham - Aleksander Mitrovic scored his fifth goal of the campaign in that one.

There was late drama at Anfield when Fabio Carvalho scored a winner for Liverpool in the eighth minute of injury time. Just reward for all Newcastle's time wasting during the game. Eddie Howe's side had lead the way with a debut goal from Aleksander Isak but Roberto Firmino's equaliser paved the way for the late winner.

Everton are still without a win. They were held one-all by Leeds. Chelsea's second defeat of the season came at Southampton. Raheem Sterling opened the scoring for the visitors but goals from Lavia and Armstrong earned the Saints their second win of the season. The two other midweek games ended in draws - one-all between Crystal Palace and Brentford and nil-all between Bournemouth and Wolves.

August ended with a three-way tie at the top of the table - debutants James Keville and Rory Ellard shared top spot with Paul Moore. Just five points separated first from seventh at the end of the month - Anastas Popov and Roisin Joyce completing the top five:
