March 8th and 9th - Liverpool took a step closer to their 20th title again this weekend. They were given a fright by Southampton but prevailed to win three-one. Will Smallbone opened the scoring just before half-time but an equaliser from Darwin Nunez and two Mo Salah penalties saw Arne Slot's side chalk up another three points. The lead at the top on Sunday was fifteen points as Arsenal dropped points for a third consecutive games, drawing one-all at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes opened the scoringfor United with Declan Rice equalising in the second half. Sixteen points are needed by the Reds to seal the title - that could be a combination of points earned or points dropped by Arsenal. To be honest, at this stage I'm more concerned about Donald Trump's trigger finger than Arsenal stopping us winning the title.

Nottingham Forest picked up a great three points in their pursuit of a Champions League spot. Callum Hudson-Odoi scored a late goal as Man City (remember them?) were beaten one-nil at the City Ground. With the Premier League likely to have five teams in the Champions League next season, Forest might be hosting the cream of Europe for the first time since the early 1980's. Chelsea moved back into the top four with a one-nil win over Leicester. Marc Cucurella scored the only goal at Stamford Bridge.

Since shipping seven at Nottingham Forest on February 1st, Brighton have won four league games on the bounce. A late win over Fulham on Saturday leaves them in sixth place, just four points outside the top four. Ollie Watkins scored the only goal as Aston Villa won one-nil at Brentford. That win moved them above Bournemouth who let a two goal lead slip at Tottenham on Sunday.

At the bottom, as well as those defeats for Southampton and Leicester, Ipswich lost one-nil at Crystal Palace. Wolves earned a point in a one-all draw at home to Everton to move six points clear of the bottom three.

Carl Toner leads the March competition after the first weekend of games - he has a one point lead over Monica Collins in second place. Phil Doyle is a further three points back with John Brophy and Joe O'Brien completing the top five:

March 15th and 16th - Arsenal took advantage of Liverpool not playing (in more ways than one...) to cut the lead at the top of the table to twelve points with nine games to go. Mikel Merino scored the only goal as Chelsea were beaten one-nil at the Emirates. With Liverpool going out of two competitions since the last update Mikel Arteta and co might just think there's a very feint pulse in the title race yet.

Nottingham Forest consolidated their top four position winning four-two at Ipswich. They have a six point advantage over Man City in fifth place. Pep Guardiola's side twice surrendered the lead against Brighton and had to settle for a point in the end.

With fifth place likely to be enough for a Champions League spot next season, everyone down as far as Bournemouth in tenth place still have a good chance of qualifying. The Cherries didn't do themselves any favours though, losing two-one at home to Brentford. Newcastle, fresh from their deserved win in the Carabao Cup final, have a game in hand - if they win that they'll climb to fourth in the table.

The big game down the bottom saw Wolves win two-one at Southampton. Wolves are now nine points clear of the relegation zone with nine games to play - hard to see any of the bottom three staying up at this stage. Man United won the other relegation six pointer, scoring three without reply at Leicester.

Elsewhere, the David Moyes Derby ended up with Everton and West Hame sharing the points after a one-all draw at Goodison Park. Another London derby saw Fulham beat Tottenham by two goals to nil at Craven Cottage. That was Spurs' fifteenth league defeat of the season.

An excellent score of 53 points saw Shane Horan top the table for March. With an international weekend followed by an FA Cup weekend it's an early conclusion to the monthly competition. Overall leader, Joe O'Brien, finished in second place just a point behind. Dylan O'Riordan also finished strongly but had to settle for third place. The top five was completed by Brian Gray and Brian Mullen who shared fourth spot:
